Trash and Recycling Collection Information

Household Trash:

Collected twice each week on Tuesday and Friday

Place trash in a bag prior to placing in garbage can.  This prevents animals and birds from ripping open bags and allowing garbage to litter the community.  Trash containers should be placed at the curb after 6:00 PM the night before or by 6:00 AM on trash collection days.  When not at the curb for collection, containers must be stored out of sight (in the house, backyard, garage, etc.).

Weekly Recyclable Materials:

Collected once each week on Tuesday

Newspapers:  Place in paper bags or bundle.  Do not use plastic bags or leave papers loose to litter the community.  Advertising slicks and magazines can be included.

Metal & Aluminum Cans:  Rinse all cans and place in a paper bag or recycling bin.  Crushing cans helps prevent them from blowing away and also saves room in your bin.

Glass Bottles & Jars:  Rinse and remove any lids.  It is not necessary to remove labels or metal/plastic rings.

Plastic Items with the designation numbers 1 and 2 can be set out for recycling (#1 or #2 is found on bottom of item).

Cardboard boxes:  Must be broken down and set out with household trash.  If setting out in large quantities, please notify AAA Recycling and Trash prior to pick up so they  are equipped for additional trash pick up.

Yard Debris:

Collected once each week on Wednesdays in the Single Family areas only (April thru mid-January).  Townhome yard debris is collected with recycling on Fridays. **Sod, dirt, mulch and/or rocks are not considered yard debris and will not be picked up.

Leaves/Grass Clippings:

Contain in clear plastic bags or in containers that are clearly marked “yard debris.”  For safety purposes, no one bag of yard debris should exceed 35 pounds.

Brush/Tree Limbs:  Must be less than 6” in diameter and no more than 4’ in length and be tied in bundles.

Large Items:

Contact AAA Recycling and Trash to arrange for special pick-up of large items such as appliances and furniture.

TRASH REMOVAL NOTICE

Trash/Recycling and Yard Debris (Grass clippings) CANNOT be set out any sooner than 6:00 PM the night before collection days.

·        Trash is collected on Tuesdays and Fridays

·        Recycling is collected on Tuesdays

·        Yard Debris is collected on Wednesdays (single family homes only)

·        Trash can ONLY be set out on Monday and Thursday nights after 6:00 PM

·        Recycling can ONLY be set out on Monday nights after 6:00 PM

·        Yard Debris can ONLY be set out on Tuesday nights after 6:00 PM

·        NO EXCEPTIONS

Trash is to be placed for pick-up in containers manufactured for trash storage purposes only.  Paper products alone are not sufficient (trash bags).  Containers must be stored out of sight (in back yard inside fenced area or in garage) immediately in the evening after trash pick up.  Trash and recycling containers cannot be stored in front yards under any circumstance.

VIOLATORS OF THESE RULES WILL BE CITED AND POSSIBLY CHARGED.  Questions regarding this notice should be directed to the Compton Village HOA Office at (703) 815-0014.

“MOVING OUT?   What to do with YOUR trash”

Residents are reminded to contact AAA Trash and Recycling at (703) 818-8222 to arrange for special pick-up of large items (appliances, furniture, etc.).

For those of you selling your homes, please keep in mind that many of us are still planning to stay here.  It is very disturbing when residents clean out their homes before the “big move” and pile everything from furniture to lawn mowers to large trash bags in the common areas on Saturday or Sunday knowing trash is not picked up until Tuesday.  The trash sits there for days and really detracts from the appearance of the community.

Unfortunately this seems to be happening a lot lately.  Either plan to dispose of your trash/large items at the I-66 Transfer Station off West Ox Road (call for hours: 703-631-1179) or keep the items contained in your home or fenced-in backyard until the night before trash pick up.

Be courteous to your neighbors.  Follow the rules for trash pick up even if you are a “short-timer.”
